The Pompano Beach Main Event concluded on Monday evening after about 7 hours of play as the final seven out of 917 battled for the $245,225 top prize . Coming out on top was a name that will be familiar to every poker player and fan who follows the circuit.
Hamid Izadi won his seventh career ring after an incredible heads-up comeback and overall impressive final day performance.
"I'm really really happy about this result. I keep telling everybody, if you put it in good and keep your composure, go for it don't give up, you will get the results." the Atlanta, GA native said afterwards.
While Izadi had won six rings prior to this, a Main Event title had eluded him until today.
"That's something else I have six rings but this is another level for me. It's not easy to win, you have to go through a lot of good players but today was my day. The cards went my way, I played my best I believe and I got the result I wanted."
He had been close on many occasions with six other main event final tables with the closest call coming in 2019 in IP Biloxi where he finished in 3rd place to Boris Kasabov who he defeated heads up today.
The win came in what turned out to be dramatic fashion as Izadi was clipped down to as low as seven big blinds in heads up play to Kasabov. But Izadi was able to come back after a couple of doubles.
"When I got down to seven big blinds, I thought it was over, but again I have experience and I got the right hands in the right time and now I am here with the ring."
"And you have your good luck charm!" added his friend on the rail Scott Dobbs who actually had flown back home just yesterday but came right back when he saw his friend make the final table. Dobbs has been present for 4 of Izadi's seven rings.
Izadi is a popular figure at many circuit stops as many congratulated him on his win afterwards and he made sure to send that love back, "I want to thank the WSOP circuits, the managers, dealers, you the reporter who does awesome work and most of all my wife and family, they've been very supportive to allow me to travel and play when I like."
Action of the Day
Izadi entered the day second in chips but quickly established himself as the force at the table as he won the most pots through betting and picking up them up by aggression.
He held the chip lead for much of play as Taylor Hart and Jake Schwartz were eliminated quickly.
Five-handed play would last a while before Dave Alfa was sent away in 5th place. Start of day chip leader Michael Lydon exiting in 4th after he hit a few bumps to knock his once big stack down and out.
Gregory Spinder would play three-handed with Kasabov and Izadi for quite a while as he was enjoying the best tournament of his career by some margin and eventually went out in 3rd place for a score that was more than three times larger than his previous best.
That would set up the aforementioned heads up battle between Izadi and Kasabov, a rematch of sorts from 2019 Biloxi. They started close in chips with Izadi holding a slim lead. They traded pots back and forth before Kasabov won a couple of big all ins to leave Izadi short before the comeback.
